The Elevator

Chicago, mid-1950s.

Mr. Miller, Dr. Johnson, and Bernice adhere to a daily routine in the elevator car of an old Art Deco tower, exchanging pleasantries and chit-chatting until a defective gear traps them in a doorless shaft.

The former prisoner of war, the psychologist, and the elevator operator accidentally come to share a secret that can ruin reputations and relationships in a society marked by dissimulation and hypocrisy.

Three personal stories collide as the morals of the wealthy, middle, and working classes clash over love, lust, and loot.

The Red Stamp

A small city in rural Brazil in the early 1970s, the peak of the military regime's brutality.

Pedro waits for the bus, in shock, cold sweat on his forehead as he tries to understand what just happened and why. Like all young men turning 18 that year, he had reported for mandatory military service, only to see his enrollment card stamped in red with 'Homosexual,' annihilating his chances for a better life.

Pedro forges a new birth certificate and moves to Sao Paulo, finding shelter at a boarding house run by a matronly cross-dresser. The eccentric villa houses artists, students, retirees, and vaudeville performers. The outlier is Tato, an insolent, spoiled young man who becomes Pedro's maddening crush.

When Pedro uncovers a major fraud scheme back in his hometown, he is torn between exposing the truth and protecting his fragile new life. As a man with a forged identity, he has no standing to face the powerful figures who enabled and profited from the military rule.

Pedro's discovery draws them all into a vortex of crime, corruption, and conspiracy.
