February 2008, at a small old airport somewhere in the US Midwest, Luca is searching for a power outlet. Nathan is desperately looking for a place to stay in Chicago.
Nathan closed his laptop and rose from the floor with the dexterity that only young people have.
“Gotta go now. We gotta prepare the cabin for you guys.”
“Any luck with hotels?” Luca asked.
“No.”
“Will you arrive on time to catch a bus to your town?”
“Nope.”
“Then why don’t you stay with me?”
“Luca, it’s kind of you, but I never sleep with the same guy twice. Not looking for, like, a relationship. I told you I’m married. It’s, like, complicated.”
“I have a well-appointed guest bedroom. And I promise to be a gentleman.”
“I don’t know…” Nathan was looking at the floor.
“Meet me at the baggage claim area.”
“You checked luggage?”
“I had to, because…”
“Sorry, they’re calling us. Must run!”
